Walks

Being situated in the countryside, we’re surrounded by incredible fields, forests and footpaths which result in wonderful walks to remember.

We also cater for walking parties. If you’re interested in booking for your next walk, please feel free to contact Guy Wallis at 01993 868 333 or email at guywallis01@gmail.com.

The Circular Walk (6.3 km) - The walk starts from the junction between The Bottom and the High Street, by the village pub. Standing with your back to the pub, turn right for a few paces and then fork left onto the stone track signed as a Restricted Byway, Dark Lane. At the footpath sign at a junction of paths, ignore the kissing gate ahead and instead take the gently rising path to the right. Follow the path as it winds through a wood, and then carry on with the wood on your right and a hedge on your left. Keep straight ahead at a "Please keep dogs on a lead" sign and re-enter the wood (Topples Wood), eventually emerging at Hunts Copse. At Hunts Copse, turn left along the road for 20 yards and then take a path on the right via a kissing gate. Ignore 2 gates on the right and carry on along the path with an open field on the left and a hedge on the right. Just before the end of the field turn right over a small footbridge. Keep straight ahead through the trees and then along the left-hand edge of a field. Pass buildings on the left and in 50 yards turn left over a stile.Go over another stile, cross the road and take the footpath ahead into Wilcote Grange Farm. Pass the farm buildings and pond on your left and continue along the track. Follow this broad track as it bends left and then immediately right and pass through a gate. Go through a double five-bar gate, then over a stile by a gate and emerge from a copse onto a farm track where you need to turn right. Follow the farm track as it bends left and then right and then take the path on the right signposted Wychwood Way into Coneygar Copse. Through this wooded section that follows there is a spectacular display of bluebells in the spring. You may also glimpse deer. Continue to the end of the wood then cross the road and turn left. After 20 yards take the footpath on the right signposted Finstock, crossing over a stile. At the end of the second field keep straight on, following the line of the telegraph poles across the fields. Continue along the path through two kissing gates back to the start.

Finstock Stroll (3.1km) - Walk along Ward's Lane past houses and allotments. At the end of the lane turn right. Follow the path along the edge of a field with a hedge on the right. At the corner of the field keep straight ahead and descend a short, steep incline to a track. Turn right along the track which becomes Dark Lane. At the end of the lane you reach The Bottom opposite The Plough Inn. Take the track to the right-hand side of The Plough and ascend to a gate. Continue along the edge of a field to a second gate. Go through the gate and turn right along a footpath. Shortly take the path to the left that crosses the field. At the far side of the field turn right along the path with trees on the left and the field on your right. After about 500 yards, do NOT take the gate in front of you. Instead turn right along the a path that takes you past the garden boundaries of village houses. On reaching the High Street, turn right. In 100 yards turn left at a footpath sign and follow the path at the side of a field as it gently ascends. Half way along the field, turn right along a path that goes through the middle of the field. At the end of the field go through two gates beside a cemetery. At a broad track, turn right past a magnificent children's playground on your left. On reaching School Road turn left to return to the point where this walk began.

Minster Lovell Hall Ruins, OX29 0RR - “The picturesque ruins of Minster Lovell Hall, a 15th century Oxfordshire manor house, lie in a beautiful rural setting beside the River Windrush. They include a fine hall, tower and nearby dovecote. Minster Lovell Hall was built in the 1430s by William, Baron of Lovell and Holand - one of the richest men in England. It was later home to Francis, Viscount Lovell, a close ally of Richard III. After several changes of hands the hall was abandoned and eventually demolished in the 18th century, leaving the extensive remains that stand today.” - English Heritage
